Creative Ideas For Your Next Boudoir Photoshoot in Florida

So you’re thinking about booking a boudoir photoshoot in Florida?

Since I’m a professional boudoir photographer in Gainesville, Florida, I might be a bit biased—but I am confident in saying that it’s a decision you won’t regret!

But what is boudoir photography, really? You might have an idea in your head of what professional boudoir photos look like. It might be fairly standard. It might involve a certain body type, location, or outfit. But the truth is that your boudoir session can be whatever you want it to be!

As a creative boudoir photographer, I love thinking outside the box. Each session is unique and designed to help bring out your authentic self. It’s about whatever makes you feel sexy, confident, and unapologetically you.

To help you start imagining the possibilities, here are some tips and creative ideas for your Florida boudoir photoshoot.

The Best Location for Your Boudoir Photoshoot in Florida

First, let’s talk about boudoir photoshoot locations! Besides choosing a boudoir photographer in Florida, this is one of the first decisions you’ll have to make.

When it comes to where to have your Florida boudoir session, there are four main options.

Boudoir Studios in Florida

Some boudoir photographers have a studio that is set up specifically for professional boudoir photography.

Usually these studios will feel more like a home, complete with a bed, chairs or a couch, natural lighting, and cozy decor.

If you don’t have another place in mind, a professional boudoir studio is a great option. The benefits of having your boudoir photos taken at a studio are that it should be a safe space where you have the privacy to be yourself, it is set up for professional photos, and your photographer is likely used to shooting there.

My boudoir studio in Gainesville, Florida (called the Siren Boudoir Studio) is always available to my clients and is complete with an ornamental bed, trendy seating areas, drapes, rugs, mirrors, plants, and other decor. My favorite parts are probably the plant wall and the vintage bath that I often use for maternity boudoir bath sessions!

Boudoir Photography at Home in Florida

Some Florida boudoir photographers will travel to your home for the session.

As you can imagine, one of the benefits of having a boudoir session at home is that it’s a place where you feel comfortable to relax and be yourself. It also adds a wonderful personal touch, being photographed amongst your own possessions and in a place that matches your style.

However, there are some things to consider when it comes to at-home boudoir photography. You and your photographer may want to discuss what the space and lighting are like to make sure it will fit both your expectations. While the personal touches are fantastic, it’s important that the space is tidy and not too cluttered. We want it to complement (and not distract from) the main subject—you!

If you have a flair for interior decorating and really love the aesthetic of your home, an at-home boudoir photoshoot might be a great choice for you.

Outdoor Boudoir Photography in Florida

If you’re a nature-lover, outdoor boudoir might be the thing for you!

The way I see it, natural elements are the perfect way to complement your natural beauty.

Whether you want to play in the ocean, pose in a field full of flowers, or get steamy in the woods, there are plenty of beautiful outdoor spaces in Florida where we can make it happen.

A Themed Boudoir Location

If your boudoir photoshoot is based on a theme (more about this below), try looking for a location that suits it.

For example, we shot this Clueless-themed boudoir shoot in a classroom. Or check out this movement-inspired male boudoir session that took place in a yoga studio

Personally, I love getting out and shooting in new locations because it helps me stay creative and inspired!

Creative Ideas for Your Boudoir Session

Now, let’s talk about some unique and fun ideas to create an artistic boudoir session that feels right for you.

What to wear to a boudoir shoot

When it comes to what to wear for a boudoir shoot, the sky is your limit. There is no right or wrong thing to wear. The most important thing is that you wear something that makes you feel comfortable, confident, and sexy—and that can look different for everyone.

Whether you choose to wear lingerie, cute underwear, a sexy outfit, jeans, a bodysuit, fishnets, a t-shirt, or nothing at all, it’s all about feeling like your sexiest self.

When I work with clients, I always respect personal boundaries. If you want to stay somewhat covered up throughout the entire session, fantastic. If you’re into nude boudoir, awesome. We can work within your comfort levels to create some beautiful, artistic boudoir images.

It’s important that whatever you wear for boudoir photos fits well and doesn’t pinch anywhere, and I recommend only adding props or accessories in a thoughtful way, making sure they accentuate your look and don’t distract from your beauty.

Themed boudoir photos

Another way to add a unique angle to your creative boudoir photoshoot is to incorporate a theme.

Here are a few ideas for themed boudoir photos:

Seasonal boudoir photography

If there’s a certain holiday you really enjoy celebrating, using it as inspiration can lead to some really fun boudoir ideas.

For example, if you love the spooky season, why not go for some Halloween-themed boudoir photography? I’m personally a big fan of Halloween and I try to shoot a spooky boudoir photoshoot every year—like this witchy boudoir session.

Themed boudoir photography gifts

You don’t need to gift your boudoir photos to anyone but yourself!

But, if you’re offering your boudoir photos as a gift to someone special, you might want to create a themed boudoir photoshoot that incorporates some relevant elements:

  • If you’re taking bridal boudoir photos as a wedding gift, wear your veil or something else from your wedding day in some of the images.

  • If you’re taking boudoir images as an anniversary gift, add a reminder of an inside joke or something from your first date.

  • Christmas-themed boudoir is a thing for those who are into all things kitschy or festive. Mistletoe, anyone?

  • Valentine’s Day themes might seem a bit cheesy, but have you thought about wearing wings to your boudoir photoshoot?

  • Birthday-themed boudoir can also be a fun idea as a gift for yourself (because you deserve it!).

  • If you want to take your gift to the next steamy level, couples boudoir is an unforgettable experience.

Themed boudoir ideas inspired by pop culture, movies, art, and more

Another great way to come up with themed boudoir ideas is to think about your favorite movies, shows, books, music, artists, and whatever else inspires you.

Whether you’re into a specific character, story, or stylistic look, it can be used to inspire unique boudoir photos that allow you to tap into something special within you.

A perfect example of this is the Clueless-inspired boudoir photoshoot that I mentioned above, which I had so much fun styling!

Use Your Boudoir Photoshoot to Showcase Your Passions

I love seeing my clients bring something to their boudoir shoot that is unique to them and showcases their passions.

I usually recommend keeping it rather simple when it comes to boudoir photos because we don’t want to create a distraction, but the right prop, outfit, or setting can go a long way.

That might mean incorporating a prop that speaks to who you are and your passions (like an instrument), wearing a t-shirt that makes a statement, or choosing a location that means something to you

Use Inclusive Boudoir to Help You Embrace Your Identity

I like to see boudoir as more than just an art form.

It can also be a powerful tool to help us learn to love ourselves, and see ourselves as the beautiful people we truly are.

If you are learning to embrace your identity, sometimes seeing yourself from a different perspective—in a different light—can make a difference. Whether you’re queer, a new mom, on a journey of self-love and acceptance, or entering a new phase of life, the right boudoir photographer will help you feel beautiful in the skin you’re in.

For example, I think it is safe to say that working with my amazing client, Autumn, when she decided to come out as transgender with a boudoir shoot, was an incredible experience for both of us.
